How to Install Wireshark on Linux 2022

Wireshark is the world’s foremost and most widely-used network protocol analyzer. It lets you see what’s happening on your network at a microscopic level, and then filter and drill down into it, zooming in on the root cause of problems.

There is also a lot of use of Wireshark and if you want to download this software that’s mean you already want it for some specific reason.

How to Install Wireshark?

Wireshark is available in the official package repository of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and later. So it is really easy to install.

Just follow the steps that I used.

1. Update the APT package

First, update the APT package repository cache with the following command:

sudo apt update

It may ask you for your device password. Enter your password then press enter.

2. Install Wireshark using a command

After updating the APT package use this command

3. Superusers or Non-Superusers

By default, Wireshark must be started as root (can also be done with sudo) privileges in order to work. If you want to run Wireshark without root privileges or without sudo, then select <Yes> and press <Enter>. Otherwise select <No> and press enter.

After that Wireshark should be installed.

4. Run Wireshark

You can run Wireshark like any other software.

5. Run Wireshark from Terminal

Open your terminal and type this command $ sudo wireshark. After that Wireshark should be started.
